Lightpack PC & Lightpack TV integration
I have Lightpack PC. Can I trade it in or get a discount?
Unfortunately, we cannot do trade-ins or discounts for the original Lightpack owners. If your order was delivered less than 30 days ago then yes, it is possible to return it if the item is undamaged. Please look at our return policy for more details. The same will apply for Lightpack PC and Lightpack TV.
Is there any integration between Lightpack PC and Lightpack TV? Can I reuse some components of Lightpack PC for the second version? How can I upgrade from the original version to Lightpack TV?
In terms of hardware and software, these are two completely different devices so unfortunately there is no integration between v1 and v2 of Lightpack. There is also no way to upgrade v1 to v2 or use the old components.
General questions
What standards are supported?
Basic version supports:
– HDMI 1.4b
– CEC pass-through
– HDCP 1.4
In addition the UHD version supports
– HDMI 2.0
– HDCP 2.2
How does it work with HDCP?
Lightpack TV supports HDCP. Lightpack TV would decrypt the source signal from the plugged device while your TV would continue receiving the original encrypted version of the signal. This means you can watch Netflix, play XBOX games, and enjoy other encrypted content.
Do you support LED strips longer than 5m, e.g. for projector screens?
Yes, you can additionally order 3m of LED ribbon. (in sum 8m for your project screen)
What happens when I turn off the TV? Do the lights stay on?
Lightpack has 2 modes:
- Backlight for your TV. When your TV is off the lights go down.
- Moodlight/Smartlight, where you can control the lights from the smartphone app even when the TV is off.
How close does the TV need to be to the wall to achieve the best effect?
The ideal distance is up to 20-30cm / 8-12 inches, but the closer the better.
What is the latency of the HDMI pass-through? And what if my TV has latency? Can I configure the Lightpack TV latency to match it?
There is almost no latency (≤ 1 ms). The device acts as a splitter, and the frame processing happens in parallel with sending the signal to the TV. You can control latency manually via mobile app.
Is it possible to configure Lightpack TV without WiFi?
Yes, you can configure Lightpack without WiFi, connecting directly via Bluetooth LE.
If I want to tinker with the API, do I have to get the version that includes LightBridge?
Yes. We will provide API to control LP2 via LightBridge.
How would Smart Corners work on curved displays?
You should have no problem mounting Smart Corners on non-flat displays. Smart Corners are mounted using double-sided adhesive strips that hide TV curvature.
Is there any loss of signal quality? Would there be any distortions?
No. LP2 switches between YCbCr and RGB modes to avoid color conversions. We also support color depth up to 12 bits per channel.
I’ve a 4K Smart TV where I watch Netflix using a built-in app. Is there a way that I can feed the signal of whatever I’m watching back to LP2 so that the colors light up in sync with the picture?
Unfortunately, there is no way to use Lightpack TV with built-in TV apps. You always need to feed Lightpack TV a HDMI stream. In this case, you’d need to launch Netflix on a PC/Mac or a set-top box to feed Lightpack TV via HDMI.
How does Lightpack TV handle widescreen content with black bars?
If the content includes information on the presence of horizontal black bars and their size, Lightpack TV narrows the video analysis area down to the meaningful part of the image. Because of this, everything depends on the technical information provided with the signal. Note that this will not affect most people, since all *official* content sources always include that information. There is one thing though: Lightpack TV does NOT process vertical black bars that appear when you watch old 4:3 content on a widescreen TV. But in any case, the zones that are captured to process the image are large enough to grab sufficient amount of useful data.
Will there be a way to manually control displayed colors when the TV is off or in standby mode? What if the TV is on but I just want non-synced backlight?
Yes. You will be able to choose Mood Light colors theme and simple color schemes as well.
Will it be possible to retrieve color values of each LED through the API? My TV has a certain latency, will there be an option to delay the colors by a few ms to sync it with the TV?
Yes. First, try to switch the picture to the Game Mode. It’s not perfect, but at least the latency will be down to just 1-2 frames.
Second, retrieving color values of each LED through API won’t help anyway if your TV’s latency is too big.
Our 42” LG testbed in Vivid mode offers latency of about 5-7 frames, so we have to store about 2KB of color data in the fast buffer.
Will Lightpack TV work connected to a receiver?
Yes. LP2 will work being plugged between an HDMI receiver and TV. If the receiver provides HDMI stream, LP2 will work.
If I back you now, when can I expect my Lightpack TV?
Estimated time delivery is end of April-May, 2017.
Pixels’ questions
Do Pixels require Lightpack TV to work, or can they work independently?
No. Pixels can work independently. You’ll need a Lightpack Mobile App to set them up. Right now we do have a 1-Pixel pledge, but we’re working on a new pledge constructor where only sets of Pixels are available.
In order to work with the API, do I have to have Lightbridge installed in my Lightpack TV? If so, will there be an option to buy the Lightbridge-enabled version without the Pixels?
Our API will offer a way to control Lightpack TV via LightBridge.
How are Pixels mounted to the wall?
There are 2 options. You can:
A. First, you can put them on sticker tape.
Or
B. Alternatively, you could figure out suitable permanent locations for your Pixels and put them on a bracket. We will provide a special bracket in the package. You can remove Pixels from their brackets to charge and put them back on.
Will Pixels support music visualization?
1) If your music comes via HDMI just switch your Lightpack TV to Music Visualization mode, and here you go.
2) If you have a Sensor Cube, it grabs sound via a built-in microphone. Switch your Lightpack TV to the Music Visualization mode.
3) If you have no Sensor Cube, no sweat. Open the Lightpack TV app on your smartphone and activate music detection. Just like Shazam.
How long does the battery last on the pixels ?
– Battery life
Flash mode – up to 4-6 weeks
Lightpack Sync mode (all the time) – 4-5 days (8-12 hours)
Night Bulbs mode (always On) – 1-2 days
– Charging
5 Pixels charging station
Charging time – 3 hours
